My Review

In the world of The Sorcery Code, the ability to perform spells is the defining characteristic separating the Haves from the Have-Nots. Sorcerers are large and in-charge and the common people are barely scraping by. Blaise, a once respected member of the Sorcerer Council – now an outcast, is sensitive to the plight of the common man and wishes to bring them the ability to do magic so that they can use it to their advantage as well. He means to create an object to bridge the gap and allow non-sorcerers to perform spells, but instead he brings into being a beautiful woman from the Spell Realm who may be the answer to all his problems – or possibly just the beginning of them.

This book is told through the 3^rd person perspective of four people: Blaise (the outcast Sorcerer and champion of the common man), Gala (Blaise’s creation born of the Spell Realm and manifested in the Physical Realm as a beautiful, wide-eyed ingénue), Augusta (Blaise’s ex-fiancé, a powerful Sorceress with a truly terrifying fear of anything that will change the status quo), and Barson (Captain of the Sorcerer Guard, Augusta’s lover, and man with a plan that the reader hasn’t really got all the pieces to yet). The chapters alternate through these perspectives and really give a great, well-rounded view of the story that I found fantastic.

I enjoyed the writing style of The Sorcerer’s Code, both overall and on a very basic sentence to sentence level as it flowed nicely and was very pleasant to read. My only complaint about this book would be that I felt it ended abruptly and on a cliffhanger. I found myself more interested in the story line of Augusta and Barson than that of Blaise and Gala and I was a little dismayed at how they were left hanging in the ending (but now I’m dying to read the next one to find out what happens to them, I see what you did there >.>).

All in all, I really liked this book and would absolutely pick up the next one (Team Augusta & Barson Happy Ending!).

There’s a very important scene towards the very end of The Sorcery Code where Gala makes friends with a bunch of lions (she saves them and they try their best to protect her). Turning a pack of ferocious lions into big, cuddly, purring ol’ kitty cats (that bite when angered) sounds pretty awesome and it’s my favorite part, so I’m recommending Lion Coffee Lion Gold. It’s a light roast, which I’m not usually a fan of, but this coffee is surprisingly delicate and sweet while at the same time packing quite a punch (like a certain lion tamer mentioned above 😉 )
