Happy Monday! A few interesting coffee-related news items from the past week: Thousands of coffee cans washed ashore a Florida beach, Keurig Green Mountain was announced as the newest acquisition for JAB Holding Company, and Starbucks has begun their second Starbucks for Life sweepstakes.

Christmas came early in Indialantic, Florida when thousands of coffee cans and vacuum-packed coffee bricks washed ashore a nearby beach last Tuesday. The yellow cans and bricks of Café Bustelo coffee pretty much blanketed the beach when they first washed up, but were quickly rescued by residents, tourists, and The Indialantic public works department (who donated the cans they gathered to a local homeless charity). Although authorities don’t know for sure where the coffee came from, they think they may be from a missing container that fell overboard from a cargo ship over the weekend.

JAB Holding Company has reached an agreement to acquire Keurig Green Mountain. For those of you keeping score, this newest acquisition to their ever expanding global coffee empire means JAB Holding Company now has controlling interests in Keurig Green Mountain, Caribou Coffee, Peet’s Tea & Coffee, Stumptown Coffee Roaster, Intelligentsia Coffee, Jacobs Douwe Egberts, Baresso Coffee, and Espresso House. That’s one heck of a consolidation of coffee companies.

Starbucks launched their second Starbucks For Life sweepstakes exclusively for My Starbucks Rewards® members. From now through January 2016, when members pays for purchases in participating U.S. and Canada stores using a registered card or the Starbucks Mobile App, they will receive a game play to be used at starbucksforlife.com for the chance to win Starbucks for a day, a week, a month or a lifetime.
