Happy Monday! A few coffee-related things going on right now: Starbucks introduces their first new beverage of the new year, Dunkin’ Donuts adds Americanos to their coffee menu, Keurig may soon make a very different kind of brewer, and, if you’ve ever wondered what to get that coffee lover in your life who has everything, 24 karat gold custom made coffee pots are available from Royal Coffee Makers.

Starting January 10th (January 6th for Starbucks Rewards members 🙂 ), Starbucks stores in the U.S. will be adding the Cascara Latte to their menu. The new latte reportedly has a subtly sweet dark brown sugar and maple flavor, taken from the fruit of the coffee cherry (Cascara is Spanish for husk). The Cascara Latte is made with cascara syrup, espresso, and steamed milk and then topped with foam and a sprinkle of cascara topping (cane sugar mixed with cascara extract) in a straight line to mimic the inside of a coffee cherry. Additionally, all you Smoked Butterscotch Latte fans will be happy to know that the smokey sweet beverage has returned to stores this winter.

Dunkin’ Donuts is once again increasing their coffee offerings, this time by adding Americanos as a new, permanent menu item. Served hot, the Dunkin’ Donuts’ Americano is made with two shots of their 100% Rainforest Alliance Certified espresso combined with hot water, which, according to Jeff Miller, Dunkin’ Brands’ Executive Chef and Vice President of Product Innovation, will bring forward “the pure flavor of Dunkin’ Donuts espresso featuring notes of caramel and chocolate”.

Keurig Green Mountain and Brewer Anheuser Busch InBev (the brewer behind Budweiser and Stella Artois) have recently announced they are coming together to work on a home brewer for alcoholic beverages. Keurig, whose last attempt at diversifying with the Keurig KOLD fell flat, was acquired by JAB Holding Co. last year.

A bespoke coffee pot maker in Paris, Royal Coffee Makers, is selling custom made coffee pots in your choice of 24 karat gold, copper, or silver. The pots come with a Baccarat crystal carafe and a customizable base in your choice of obsidian, azurite, or malachite. Designed in the style of balancing syphons seen in European Courts during the 1800’s, these decadent, handcrafted coffee makers can take more than 50 hours of workmanship for each piece and will run you about $10,400.00–$18,000.00.
