Monday Morning Coffee News
Happy Monday! Some interesting coffee-related things in the news right now: Starbucks introduces Midnight Mint Mocha Frappuccino and brings back Frappuccino Happy Hour, Dunkin’ Donuts adds Frozen Dunkin’ Coffee to their menu and celebrates by giving away free samples, and hello caffeinated coffee bagels. Over at Kickstarter: a mobile phone cover that makes coffee and coffee-flavored intimate wipes.
If you weren’t aware of it yet, Starbucks brought back the S’mores Frappuccino (a summer classic since 2015) and added the new Midnight Mint Mocha Frappuccino to their menu at participating Starbucks stores in the United States and Canada. Inspired by starry summer nights, The Midnight Mint Mocha Frappuccino is made from extra-dark cocoa and cooling mint sugar crystals blended with coffee, milk and ice, with a layer of whipped cream in the middle and on top, and finished with a dash of dark cocoa (I’ve tried it and I loved it – it tastes like a Java Chip Frappuccino kicked up to the next level). Also in participating Starbucks stores in the United States and Canada, Frappuccino Happy Hour is back! Available now through May 14th, any Frappuccino beverage purchase, any size or flavor, is half-off between 3 pm and 6 pm local time.
Inspired by their Original Blend coffee, Dunkin’ Donuts is adding new Frozen Dunkin’ Coffee to their menu. The beverage is made with “a special extract featuring 100% Arabica coffee” blended with ice and dairy and can be customized with any of Dunkin’ Donuts coffee flavors (including their limited-edition Coconut Crème Pie and Butter Pecan flavors). To celebrate this new addition, and give customers a chance to try it, participating Dunkin’ Donuts will be giving out free 3.5-ounce samples of Frozen Dunkin’ Coffee on May 19th from 10 am to 2 pm, while supplies last.
The internet is buzzing about Einstein Bros. Bagels new Espresso Buzz Bagel. Part of their “Boosted Bagel” line of bagels “jam-packed with flavor and benefits”, the Espresso Buzz Bagel contains 13 g of protein, 6.5 mg of iron, and, yes, 32 mg of caffeine (about 1/3 of what you would find in an average 8 oz cup of coffee).
An Italian company recently launched a Kickstarter for MOKASE – a mobile phone case that brews coffee. I’ve already added one to my Christmas list (No, it’s not too early. Don’t judge me). See the campaign video below to see how this little miracle of science works.
Also on Kickstarter, a campaign for Babe, a company that makes coffee caramel scented and flavored intimate wipes (they also come in lemon and mixed berry).
