The first two books of the In The Kitchen series, In The Raw and In The Fire, followed bad boy chef Ethan and “Golden Boy” chef Jamie on their journey to a hard-won Happily Ever After. In The Distance, the third book in the series, has Ethan and Jamie stepping back into secondary character roles, giving center stage to the developing relationship between Jamie’s best friend Trevor, a New York-based Entertainment Manger/Trust-Fund Baby/playboy, and Tyler, a young culinary student and sous chef at Ethan and Jamie’s restaurant in Seattle who dedicates all his free time to volunteer work and giving back to the community.

Not going to lie, when I first read the description of this book I was more than a little surprised and thrown off. When we last left Ethan and Jamie at the end of In The Raw, the two up-and-coming chefs were very much in love and facing their six month separation with so much hope for the future – to find out they had broken up not too long after and have been apart for eight (eight!) years was startling and upsetting. [Book Review] In The Raw By Eileen Griffin And Nikka Michaels & Schuil Coffee Co. Chocolate Éclair
As a fan of cooking competition shows, I knew I was going to like this book. Those who enjoy cooking or cooking shows will love the familiar cooking methods and terms that provide the flavor for this book (see what I did there? ), but they’re used and explained in such a way that even if you have no experience with these things going in, you’ll still be able to enjoy it. And I did, I really enjoyed this book, as much for the culinary school setting as for the great main characters.
